Mon Amour Altered Heart Shaped Candy Box

By Alexandra Morein

“I love Valentine’s Day with its romantic presents, lots of red hearts everywhere and of course, lots of sweets 🙂

For my today’s #SimplyG45 project I took a 1$ candy box (with 3 assorted chocolate candies inside), and altered it with the paper which couldn’t fit the occasion more – Mon Amour.

A few of the cut-out pieces on the lid are backed up with the medium weight chipboard pieces and layered one on top of the other for achieving a dimensional look. I also added an ivory lace around the edges of the lid.

You can see a couple of process pictures at the end of the post.

Happy (belated) Valentine’s day t all of you, G45ers!” ~Alexandra

DIY Chocolate Box

By Kathy Clement

“I love Valentine’s Day!  What could possibly be better than a day set aside to celebrate love and friendship?  Throw a little chocolate into the mix, and you’re all set.  Today I’m going to show you how to transform a simple box of truffles into a Valentine’s Day worthy gift.  This chocolate book box looks like it took hours to create…but it can be done in under an hour.  Here’s what you’ll need to make this fun project:

Graphic 45 Supplies:

Place in Time - Deluxe Collector's Edition

Staples - Shabby Chic Ornate Metal Brads

Staples - Shabby Chic Ornate Metal Key Holes

ClearSnap Decades Dye Pad Precious Pink

Other Supplies:

  • Heavy Ivory Cardstock
  • Pale Pink Cardstock for Matting
  • Scoring Tool, Scor-Tape, Glue
  • 1.5” White Silky Crush Ribbon, Ivory Burlap String
  • Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Baroque Frame

Tip: Combine fussy cut flowers and images with paper flowers to create a lush, elegant display on the cover of your chocolate book box.

Tip: Remove the “legs” from Ornate Shabby Chic brads so that you can glue them to the front of the cover.  To do this, I bend them back and forth repeatedly until they separate.  Now you have a flat surface for gluing.  Glossy Accents or Art Institute Dries Clear Adhesive work well for adding metal embellishments to a project.

How fun is it to open a Valentine and find a box of chocolates?  I fussy cut this tag from the Place in Time February pages.  Then I added stickers from a Ladies’ Diary DCE.

One of the things I love the most about working with Graphic 45 papers is how well the various collections work together. This image and sticker from A Ladies Diary looks fabulous paired up with the fussy cut Cupid from A Place in Time.

I fussy cut “Kisses” from a border strip in Place in Time.  It fit perfectly on the spine of my chocolate box.  Adding  Shabby Chic Ornate Metal Brads to this Shabby Chic Ornate Metal Keyhole really took things up to the next level!

Tip: To help this metal frame blend in with the project, I painted it with a light coat of Picket Fence Distress Paint.

Tip: To give all my cut edges a finished look, I inked them up with G45 Decades Precious Pink Ink by ColorBox.  It’s a perfect color match! (Special announcement, we now carry all 9 of our Decades inkpads in our online retail shop!)

I’ve created a Snapguide Tutorial so that you can make your very own Chocolate Box Valentine.
