[60-Second Video Tutorial] Sympathy Card Featuring Square Tag and Clock Die

Hello, G45ers!

We have a show-stopping card for you today, starring our Square Tag & Clock Die.  In this post, Kathy Clement shares a Sympathy Card, oodles of tips, and a 60-Second Video Tutorial so you can recreate this card at home.  This card features our Botanicabella Deluxe Collector’s Edition, which is, unfortunately out of stock.  However, this card tutorial would be beautiful with any of our collections, especially Botanical Tea.  So grab a cup of tea and enjoy this card.

Sympathy Card

By Kathy Clement

“As a cardmaker, I find that making a sympathy card is probably the hardest task I ever face. The loss of a loved one can make you feel very alone, but receiving a beautiful condolence card reminds you that you are surrounded by people who love and care about you.  When I needed to make a sympathy card for a dear neighbor, I turned to the  Botanicabella – Deluxe Collector’s Edition. The color palette is so rich and soothing. Botanical images are always a good choice for a sympathy card. And the wonderful butterfly images speak of life and rebirth, both of which offer great comfort.

Staples - Square Tag & Clock Dies

Tip:  Die cut the Graphic 45 Clock from gold metallic paper and back it with a circular die cut made with patterned paper from the collection. Glue the largest die layer directly to the circle die, but add dimensionals (foam tape or waste cardboard) to the back of each successive layer.

Tip: Glue just the center body of two fussy cut butterflies together, then lift the wings with tiny foam tabs to create lifelike elements for your card. I also lightly misted the wings with a gold mica spray to add a little shimmer.

Tip: Spatter your paper with inks to give it an aged, distressed appearance.  I also spattered my flowers for the same purpose.

Tip:  Cut one flower in half.  Then tuck above and below the clock image to add texture, dimension and Interest to your card design.

Tip: Don’t forget to finish the inside of your card.  Add layered papers, stamped sentiments and a miniature notecard to an inner pocket.

I left room inside this little sentiment card to write a personal message.  I’m hoping it will bring a little comfort to my friend.

To help you see how the layers of this card came together, I’ve created a little 60-second video tutorial for you.  Remember, you can always press the pause button to study each individual frame more closely.
