DIY gifts for the stylish Graphic 45 mom
“Hello G45ers, I am so happy to be back today to share with you a new project. This month we are celebrating Mother’s Day, and I wanted to create a simple, fast, and inexpensive gift to give to all of our stylish G45 mothers: a personalized portfolio to keep our mom organized at all times.
As some of you already know I was just picked for another year as a Brand Ambassador for G45 and I was so excited! Right away I started brainstorming and thinking of all the projects that I wanted to create for the upcoming design team term year. My first initial thought was that I needed something to jot down all of those ideas that i was brainstorming up – and being that this month is both Mother’s day and my birthday, I created a little gift for myself for my first project in celebration of all the month’s festivities.
My challenge for this project was to create something beautiful and functional, but very cost effective. I used only four items that are all easily purchased at many locations: two legal pads of different sizes, a small calendar or agenda (I found mine at the dollar store), chipboard and some papers to decorate my portfolio.
I started by cutting three pieces of chipboard in sizes (2) 9”x 12” and (1) 1”x12”. Then I used black cardstock to cover the edges of the chipboard.
After that, I created pockets for the inside of my portfolio using more black cardstock. I made an expandable double pocket on one side and attached the legal pad on the other.
Then the real fun began when I started using papers to decorate the portfolio. For this project, I chose papers from the Flutter collection. I love floral images and the Flutter collection has no shortage of them. I used black cardstock and a black striped paper to balance the floral papers and not try to not overwhelm my project. I just love how the dark colors contrast with the floral images.
G45tip: Use a strip of paper to decorate your legal pads to cover any plain designs that were on the legal pad.
I wanted to make pockets for my portfolio to hold different items that I would need: one for a smaller writing pad and/or post-its, and one to hold business cards.
I even created a pencil holder by using two strips of paper nested in between the pockets.
I also made some cuts with my Silhouette to personalize my portfolio and decorate my agenda.
With papers from the collection, this dollar agenda had an incredible makeover.
I am very happy with my new portfolio and can not wait to start using it to organize and plan all of my projects for this year. I hope that it gave you some inspiration to create your own or to make one to give to your mother as a gift.
I want to thank the Graphic 45 family for trusting me with another year of Brand Ambassadorship, and to all of you that have left comments with good wishes for me. I do really appreciate them! Happy Mother’s Day in advance! I will see you all very soon with more projects. Stay tuned!” ~Glenys
