Hello, G45ers!

Today we bring you a rainbow of good crafty fun.  In this post, Tanya Scrap teaches us how to create our own colorful watercolor backgrounds using Graphic 45's Decades Ink Pads, and how to tell a story with fussy cut images from our Magic of Oz - Deluxe Collector’s Edition (now 20% off).  We hope this tutorial encourages you to pull out your ink pads and get your hands a little dirty this weekend, and when you do be sure to share your projects with us on Instagram using the #Graphic45 hashtag.

#G45Technique Magic of Oz - Layout

Watercolor Paper Background

By Tanya Scrap

Hello, dear G45ers!

Happy to share with you my #G45Technique project this month featuring the lovely The Magic of Oz Deluxe Collector's Edition.

This collection made its appearance before I started my paper crafting journey and I am beyond thrilled to see it as a DCE. The patterns, colours and imagery are all just fabulous. I love everything about it! It is such a fun line to work with!

Today we will be exploring the Graphic 45 Decades Dye Ink pads on a watercolor paper background. I have fussy-cut all the cute elements from the signature page to tell the story.

Herewith the Supplies and Instructions you may use to recreate such a project:

Graphic 45 Supply List:

Magic of Oz - Deluxe Collector's Edition

Clearsnap Decades Dye Pad Venetian Lace

Clearsnap Decades Dye Pad Rustic Orange

Clearsnap Decades Dye Pad French Lilac

Other Supplies:

  • Watercolor Paper
  • Spray Bottle with water
  • Chipboard Circles and Spider Webs
  • Embossing Powder
  • Gold Metallique Wax
  • Yellow Paint
  • Purple and Black Paint
  • Sand Texture Paste
  • Brick Stencil
  • Foam Board/Cardboard
  • Circle Punch
  • Sequins

Step by Step Tutorial:

Fussy-cut all the elements from the signature page The Magic of Oz and some of the compass circles from the Wicked! page. Punch a few circles from the left over pieces from the signature page using a circle punch.

Ink the sides of the watercolor paper with the rustic orange ink pad. Make sure to leave some open spaces in between for the other two colours.

Tip: Use the fussy-cut title as a guideline when inking, thus making sure how much colour you want to add and where.

Next, randomly ink the other two colours French Lilac and Venetian Lace in the open spaces whilst blending the colours.

Spray the inked edges with water and heat dry.

Tip: You can dab off some of the excess water with a paper towel if you wish. You could also tilt the page from side to side if you want the ink to run on the page.

The result of the colours on the watercolor paper once it is dry.

Add a brick wall or in this case a yellow brick road at the bottom of the page. Mix some sand texture paste with yellow paint. Apply this to the background over a brick stencil. Leave to dry. Lightly brush the 'bricks' with gold metallique wax.

Heat emboss the chipboard spider webs with distress embossing powder in black soot, lightly brush gold metallique wax on top. Heat emboss the circles with yellow.

Adhere all the fussy-cut pieces together. Place some foam board or cardboard behind the solid piece for dimension. Glue to the page.

Tip: Remember to add paint splatters to the page before adhering the fussy-cut cluster.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that it has inspired you to pull out those fabulous Graphic 45 ink pads and create your own coloured background.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Papercrafting!”

It's that yellow brick road that is really drawing my attention! Love this element...so creative a way to incorporate another part of the story. Lovely work!

I really like that you used an old black and white photo with this. I LOVE this collection--my favorite movie as a child!!!I like how you layered the different characters and left white space in other spots. NICE JOB!!!
