We are thrilled to start our 2019-2020 G45 Brand Ambassadors Introductions! Beginning with Aleksandra Mihelič, the Master of Off the Page projects. We have asked each of our Brand Ambassador's to create a project that describes them as an artist for our #G45Selfie - June Challenge. If you would like to join in the fun, it is easy, just create a paper project using Graphic 45 that reflects you, and your favorite medium and share your project to our Graphic 45 - Official Community Page. For Aleksandra's project, she created a Fun at the Sea Altered Art Glass using a martini glass, and two of G45's beach collections, By the Sea - Deluxe Collector’s Edition and Sun Kissed. So grab a refreshing drink and kick your feet up for this fun to watch video tutorial process.
Aleksandra Mihelič - Slovenia
Brand Ambassador 2019-2020
"My name is Aleksandra Mihelič and I also go under the nickname “Papermade fairytale”. My crafting story begins probably once in my childhood years. My dear mother was a bookbinder and she worked in a Library, repairing and hand stitching the books that were destroyed in the process of borrowing. I’ve always visited her and played with all the gorgeous papers, canvases, and glues she had. At that time these goods were not so widely available so this was a huge privilege and a pure joy for me. And the love for papers, crafting, and everything stuck with me. I’m still in love with the smell of the fresh paper. Today I create for a living and I feel so happy and blessed to have such an opportunity. My art is one of the major parts of my life and I can’t imagine my day without crafting. I’m a color enthusiast, who loves striking and bold color combinations on one side, but has her breath taken away by the soft, shabby chic color palettes on the other side. I most often search and find my inspiration in nature and everyday life. One of my biggest passion is combining mixed media and papercrafting and I love to alter unordinary things to give them a new purpose and a new life. I live with my loving husband and my three wonderful children in a small, beautiful European country Slovenia. I’m 37 years old and have been more actively crafting for the last 10 years. It makes me happy if somebody can find some inspiration in my work or I can make someone’s day a bit happier and brighter with it."
Fun at the Sea Altered Art Glass - #G45Selfie
"Hello, dear Graphic 45 friends and fans. So… this is the beginning of a new creative Year together and I can’t tell you how much excited and happy I am to get to spend another Year with all of you, inspiring you to create beautiful things with our favourite, gorgeous Graphic 45 papers, and other products.
Our first month here is dedicated to “Self-portrait” projects. Project that reflects us, our favourite paper medium, our to-go technique. Well to choose from favourite among Graphic 45 papers… that was impossible, so I went with two of my favourite ones - By the Sea DCE and Sun Kissed. I love those two collections and since summer here is just around the corner it felt perfect! As far as my to-go technique goes… my favourite projects are still Altered mixed media pieces in which I love to incorporate my favourite paper collections. So this is also the project I prepared for you today.
I’ve altered a cocktail glass and created a Seaside scene with kids playing in it. I hope you’ll like my project.
And here are some close-ups for you:
Tip: I love to join different collections together. Here I joined beautiful Sun Kissed paper collection from previous year and By the Sea, older collection that was recently re-released as Deluxe Collector’s Edition. I think they fit perfectly together.
Tip: I like to use things that have different purposes and use them at my projects. For several years I’ve been using kinetic sand that my kids love to play with to create a sandy beaches on my projects. I glue it down with a hot glue. It is perfect because it is kinetic and it “sticks” together.
Tip: I created water with hot glue too. You can also use Glossy Accent, which gives even more “clear” and transparent look, but it dries longer.
Tip: I was careful when choosing parts of the papers to cut out. I wanted the more distanced cut-outs to be in a smaller scale and the nearer ones in a bigger scale.
I also embellished the bottom part of the glass, so it wouldn’t look empty and dull.
Tip: I tucked one of the turtles in the “water”. It looks more realistic. I did the same thing in the upper scene, where also a fish is peeking out of the “water”.
Tip: I love to wrap some ribbon around my projects and hang some gorgeous chipboard pieces on it as I did here.
I’ve also prepared a video tutorial for you to follow along. You can find it on Graphic 45 Youtube channel. I hope you will find it helpful and it will reveal some new tips and tricks to you.
