Fairie Dust ATC Diorama

By Sandy Trefger

“There’s nothing more magical and inspiring than lots of lovely fairies and pretty flowers.  The beautiful Fairie Dust collection made me think of a small fairyland diorama and I knew I wanted to create one from those papers.  To house my diorama, I selected the Graphic 45 ATC Book Box. It was just the perfect size. This paper collection is a fussy cutters dream come true, so grab your little scissors and start cutting.

I have a video tutorial showing you how I put my Fairie Dust Diorama together.

Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Diorama Tutorial

Graphic 45 Supplies:

Staples - ATC Book Box - Kraft

Staples - Shabby Chic Metal Door Plates & Knobs

Staples - Shabby Chic Ornate Metal Key Holes

Staples - Shabby Chic Door Pull

Other Supplies:

  • Silk Roses & Greenery (Ferns)
  • Purple Seam Binding Ribbon
  • Satin Ribbon, 1.5” wide, Ivory
  • Gauze
  • Prima Color Bloom Spray
  • Tim Holtz Distress Ink
  • Small Gold Brads
  • Ivory Artisan Cardstock
  • Glossy Accents
  • Glitter Brush Pen
  • Gold Prills

Tip 1:  Fussy cut lots of images from the paper (more than you will probably need) so you have an assortment to choose from when creating the scene in your diorama.  Always leave a ½” straight strip at the bottom of each fussy cut piece so you will have a tab to fold up and glue into the bottom of the diorama scene.

Tip 2:  Create a unique look for your metal pieces by layering.  In this project I attached a keyhole to the metal door plate before attaching the door knob.  Fit the door knob right above the keyhole to give it a magical look. Use a good adhesive to attach metal pieces such as Glossy Accents.

Tip 3:  Create paper flowers out of some the the papers from the collection to bring it all together.  Use gold prills for the centers of your paper flowers and attach with Glossy Accents.

Fun Fact:  I’ve always been enthralled with small things, dollhouses and the tiny accessories that go inside, little people in storybooks (my favorite was the Borrowers) and of course fairies!  I have a huge farmhouse style dollhouse in my craft room that I built from a wood kit when my daughter was a baby. I did not finish it until she was 6 years old. It was a very time consuming and detailed project complete with electric lights inside.

I hope you have as much fun creating with this wonderful paper collection by Graphic 45 as I did!  It is amazing and will keep you enchanted for hours! Happy Crafting! ~ Sandy Trefger

I truly love this projec and graphic 45 is my favorite. I am inspired to make something to go into my guest bedroom which I am redoing to house those things I make which I can’t seem to part with. It will be a magical place. I already have found an old iron bedstead, a large round mirrored vanity.

I am astounded at how the same paper collection can look so different and be used in so many unique creations! Every creation reflects the personality of the artist and looks so original, but they are all using the same collections! I guess that is a testament to the genius of the Graphic 45 collections as well as the creativity of the artisan. LOVE them both!

I just purchased the "sunkissed", it's so gorgeous, but the "fairies" didn't seem to be my thing. I'm may have to rethink that after seeing what Sandy made!

Beautiful. The Fairie paper is just beautiful. Great tips, I’m drying to do more fussy cutting to get better at it. It’s actually very relaxing for me, it lets me focus on the cutting instead of other things.
