Back 2 School Album Video Tutorial

Hello, G45ers!

 With Autumn comes back to school time and here to help us ease into the season is Sandy Trefger with her fantastic and functional Children’s Hour School Days Mini Album. This thoughtfully designed album would be a real treat for the students of any age in your life. Sandy has cleverly incorporated spare sheets from other collections she had on hand, including Off to the Races and Good Ol' Sport. We also love how her themed additions, including the custom pencil design and the functional addition of notebook paper help evoke those classic school day feelings. She has also included a video tutorial for you to check out below.

School Days Mini Album

“It’s been years since I’ve had a little one starting a new school year.  In fact, our youngest grandchild is in high school!  But I love the Graphic 45 Children’s Hour collection and decided to create a School Year Mini Album for a great-great-niece who started second grade this year and moved to a different town and new school.  I added in patterns and solids from the Off to the Races collection to give me more “school” color paper prints to work with. I also wanted at least one section in the album for sports or ball games and you don’t find those in Children’s Hour.  However, in my stash, I had some Good Ol' Sport (a retired collection) that worked just perfect.  So take a look at my School Year Mini Album that will soon be on its way to Miss B.

 

 

 

Tip: When working on a school album a few extra academic elements can be created out of your paper scraps. The large pencil that is on the cover of my album and on one of the pages, is made from a scrap of paper from the patterns and solids with a tiny bit of ivory and yellow cardstock.  Use a black marker to create the lead of the pencil.  Other school elements you can create are small sheets of notebook paper cut to size to fit in the album or pockets and punched on one side with a binder edge type punch.  Also, small composition books can be tucked in a pocket.  If they are too thick, just tear out enough of the pages to make them thinner.  Other fun things to add are puzzle sheets from small books purchased at the dollar store.

 

 

 

Here is Miss B on her first day of school for Fall 2017. This is the first page in the album and the only photo so far as she has the whole year ahead of her. There are a lot of pages in this pre-made staple album from Graphic 45.  It’s perfect for a School Year Album.  I used Graphic 45 sticker letters from several different collections to create the titles for each section.  If the titles don’t work for Miss B and her Mom, it should be easy to gently lift the title stickers off or cover them with a strip of paper from the collections for new titles.

 

And now for a peek at the pages inside the album.  It took me several days to complete this project, but it was so worth it!  I also have a process tutorial video to show how it all came together.

Fun Facts:

• A new box of Crayola crayons was my favorite supply to receive every year to start back to school.  I was lucky, my Mom always bought me the biggest box they had at that time (64 crayons).  I loved to look at all the pretty colors with the nice sharp points ready for endless hours of colors!  And the smell.  I loved the smell  (and still do) of crayons.  I also loved new pencils and paper tablets and could hardly wait to write upon the lines.  Sadly, once classes started there were days I didn’t like the homework but for the most part, I always loved going to school.

• I loved doing crafts at school and many times volunteered to do the bulletin boards.  Not only in my home classroom but for the hallways too.  And when we were assigned to make posters…well, I was in heaven.  I guess once a crafter, always a crafter because here I am still making things.
