Pop-Up Gift Card Holder

Tutorial by Gina Long

“Hello Everyone

I’m thrilled to be back on the blog this month!

I created three slightly different cards using a simple little bag-making technique. These little pop-up bag cards are so easy to make, and I usually make several for the holidays when sending out gift cards. I will use Sunshine on my Mind collection today, but any collection will work.

To start, you will need to grab a piece of 12″ by 12″ pattern paper and trim it down to 3.5″ by 11.5″. On the 11.5″ side, score at 0.5″ – 1″ – 1.5″ – 6″ – 6.5″  – 7″.

Turn to the 3.5″ side and score at 1/2″, watching the direction of your pattern paper. (Score lines are on the bottom of the bag.)

Trim the little squares off the bottom.

Fold all the score lines, and mark 1″ in and 1/4″ down from the top of the bag on the front and back of the gift bag. Then, punch holes and add eyelets.

Cut two 2/8″ by 6″ strips from pattern paper, curl them with your bone folder, and glue them in by sticking them through the eyelet.

Fold on score lines and glue the side of the gift bag closed.

Add some ephemera to the front of your bag!

Add scor tape to the 1/2″ hinges on both sides.

Next, you will need to grab some Square cards score in half, then cut the card down to 5.25″ by 6.5″. If using Graphic 45 cards, you will only need to trim one side.

Cut a piece of transparency or acetate to 5 1/8″ by 5 1/8″, add scor tape to the small flap on the front of the card, and adhere transparency to the tape.

From pattern paper, cut one 5 1/8″ by 5 1/8″ and two 1 1/8″ by 5 1/8″ squares. Adhere to the inside of the card, and the last 1 1/8″ by 51/8″ adhere to the card’s front cover using scor tape.

Take your bag and remove scor tape backing from the back side of the bag.

Place the scor tape side down, centered, to the scoreline.

Remove the backing of the scor tape on the front of the bag, close the card, and burnish down.

Now, when you open your card, the bag pops up!

Use some ephemera on the card’s front lower section and add sticker strips to the top of the acetate.

I added some rub-on transfers to my acetate.

To finish, I used the leftover piece of my card, trimmed it to fit in my bag, rounded the corners, and added some stickers and tissue paper to the sides, photo corners from Policy and Decorative die set to make a gift card holder. I also added a removable journaling card to the inside using photo corners to hold it in.
