Are you ready for a project that’s equal parts fun and functional? Today, I’m sharing a super cute and surprising creation using the Mon Amour paper collection from Graphic 45: a Mon Amour Pivot Box! This box is all about surprises—when you pull it, the cover pops up (like a little magic trick!), and you can fill it with chocolates, jewelry, or a sweet photo to surprise your loved ones.
Let’s dive into how I made this fun pop-up box, step by step!

Step 1: Create the Box Base
Start with a piece of Kraft paper measuring 8.5×8.5”. Grab your scoring board and score at the 1” and 2” marks on all sides. This will help create the folds for the box.
Now, trim off the excess paper from the corners (check out the video for a clear visual!).
You’ll have your base template ready to go! To jazz it up, I used pattern papers from the Mon Amour collection. Cut 8 pieces of paper (4.5×1”) and one piece (4.5×4.5”), then adhere them to the Kraft paper to add some flair.
Step 2: Assemble the Box
Fold along the creased lines to form the box shape. Once it’s folded, it’s time for a cute diecut! I diecut a circular piece that will act as the pull tab for the pop-up mechanism.
Step 3: Work on the Box Cover
For the cover, I used a piece of Kraft paper measuring 4 5/8” x 11 3/4”. Now, let’s get scoring again!
Score at 2 1/4”, 3 3/16”, 8”, and 9 1/16”.
Fold the paper along these lines, and voilà, you have your cover.
Time to add some color! I used more pattern papers from Mon Amour to decorate the cover, making it pop with some extra love.
Next, I diecut a rectangular window right in the center of the cover. This is where the pop-up mechanism will show up (trust me, it’s going to be awesome).
Step 4: Build the Pop-Up Mechanism
For the pop-up mechanism, I cut a piece of Kraft paper to 6.5×1.75” and scored it at 1”, 2 7/8”, and 4.75”.
Fold it along the score lines, and now you’ve got your little pop-up strip!
Attach the pop-up strip to the inside of the cover. When you pull the tab, this is where the magic happens—your cover will pop up!
Step 5: Add the Fun Finishing Touches
Now, add a sweet little message, photo, or anything that will make this box extra special. I used some poppy cut-outs from Graphic 45’s Season to Celebrate paper pack to give it a bit of flair.
And don’t forget to fill the box with some fun surprises! You can go with chocolates, jewelry, a small trinket, or even a personalized photo to really wow the recipient. It’s perfect for any occasion!
