Drop-In Greeting Card Tutorial

   We are thrilled to bring you a brand new style of card, a Drop-in Card!  This fun and interactive card and tutorial have been created by the Papercrafting Genius and G45 Brand Ambassador, Donna Kauffman.  Donna shares this brilliant drop-in #G45Technique  that can be used on handmade cards, as well as mini albums, and layouts and looks great with our G45 Tags.  So pull out your papers and let's make some magic together!

“Hello, Happy G45 Crafters! 

This month I’m excited to share one of my favorite techniques with you. Today you’ll learn how to create one of my fun, unique “Drop-Ins” — greeting card, style! 

 

What are Drop-Ins? Drop-Ins are little interactive units that you create separately, then attach to an album page, or–like we will today–the front of a greeting card. It’s a fast, fun, easy way to add more interest to any plain surface. 

 

 

By attaching this one wee unit, you can jazz up any surface with space to add photos, journaling, notes, gift cards, as well as add a dash more cuteness. And who doesn’t need more of that? 

 

 

If you’ve been following me on my MiniBooksRMe YouTube channel or blog, you know I’ve created three sets of Drop-Ins so far. I’ll show you more about those in the step-by-step video tutorial included here.

Drop-ins Card Tutorial for Graphic 45 by Donna Kauffman

 

 

Those Drop-Ins work perfectly with Graphic 45’s Rectangle Tag & Pocket Albums, as you’ll see in the video, but they can also work with other pre-made or hand-made albums. 

 

 

I’ve talked about how these Drop-Ins can also work to add a bit of interactive fun to greeting cards and today, I’m going to teach you how to make one of your very own! 

 

 

You’ll create a library pocket foundation, with a deep pocket front, and two wee pockets as well. 

 

 

Handy Tip! Create pockets with a little depth so you can add more tags, or in the case of this Drop-In, a full, accordion-style booklet made out of Graphic 45 tags!  I’ll show you how to make a ⅛” deep pocket in this tutorial. Need even more depth? Simple! Adjust the “gusset” measurement to whatever size you need. 

 

 

Handy Tip #2! Use the sharp edge of your ruler to help fold the close-together score lines needed to make these deep pockets. I’ll show you how in this tutorial. 

 

 

Handy Tip #3! Add interest to your pockets with a We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board. They aren’t just for making envelopes any more! You’ll learn that fun technique in this tutorial as well. 

 

 

So, go grab a blank card, one sheet of 8.5” x 11” cardstock, a few Graphic 45 tags, along with your favorite Graphic 45 papers and let’s get started! (See below for full supply list of all materials and tools used to make this sample.) 

 

Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Drop-In Card ~ Full Supply LIst 

 

CARD: (cream cardstock card used in sample) 

10” x 6 ½” 

·     Scored Landscape 5” 

 

CREAM CARDSTOCK: 1 sheet 8.5” x 11” 

Base Mat:4 ¼” x 5” 

Deep Pocket:5 ½” x 4 1/8”  

·     Score Landscape ½ and 5/8 from each side. Then Portrait at ½”, 5/8

Front Pocket: 5 ¼” x 2” 

·     Score Landscape ½” from each side. The Portrait at ½” 

Sleeve: 5 ¼” x 1 ½” 

·     Score Landscape ½” from each end. Then Portrait at ¾” 

Hinge Strips:(2) 1” x 4 ½” 

·     Score Portrait ½” 

Tag Topper Attachment Strips (Optional): (2) 2 ¾” x ¾”

 

GRAPHIC 45 TAGS: 

(3) G45 Regular (Ivory) Tags Size: 3 7/8” x 5 ¾” 

(2) G45 ATC (Ivory) Tags Size: 2 ½” x 3 ½” 

·     One tag is whole 

·     One tag trim ½” off bottom 

 

GENERAL SUPPLIES: 

 Graphic 45 Tag Dies:

·     Large/ATC

·     Regular 

Graphic 45 Pattern Paper used on sample: 

8×8 Fairie Dust (partial use, 1 sheet each of 5 of the 8 patterns) 

12×12 Fairie Dust Patterns & Solids (partial use, 1 sheet each of the four solid colors) 

1 set Fairie Dust cardstock stickers 

 

MISCELLANEOUS: (All Optional) 

Ribbon 

2 ½” x 2 ½ scrap piece chipboard (for tag dangles) 

Jump Rings

Charms

Cream Cardstock scraps for adding wee tags and folders 

 

TOOLS/SUPPLIES: 

12” Paper Trimmer

Scoreboard

Bone Folder

Scissors

3/8” Scor-tape

Paper Adhesive (ie: ATG tape runner, or similar) 

Art Glitter Glue w Fine Tip Applicator (or other fast, clear drying glue that can be applied in a thin line)
