“Enjoying in the Garden” Altered Home Decor project with a Gift Box

By Aleksandra Mihelič

“Hello hello dear G45’ers. 🙂 It’s so good to be here with you again. It’s always a special joy and honour to be sharing my projects with you here on the amazing Graphic 45 blog. New challenge started in the Graphic 45 community and it’s right up my alley this time! Seriously… the theme couldn’t be more perfect – #G45OffThePage. Your job this month is to create a non-traditional scrapbook project, home decor piece or 3D project. And this just happens to be my favourite type of projects of all, so I was really excited to jump into it. The hardest part was actually to choose one from many ideas jumping around my head and also to decide which one of many gorgeous paper collection to choose.

I went with the beautiful and soft Garden Goddess paper collection and I created a large Gift box and Home Decor piece from G45 “Deep Rectangle Matchbook Box” and one wooden window decor piece I found in one of the local stores.

TIP 1: I used an old lace napkin to create a window curtains for this piece. Always look around your house for a different things you don’t need and you don’t use anymore. They are great to use them on your Home Decor altered art projects.

TIP 2: I love adding chipboard pieces to my projects. They add extra interest and dimension. You can color them using white gesso and some sprays or acrylic colors or you can emboss them to match them to your project.

TIP 3: For me, small details are very important part of each projects, so I always take care of them with extra attention. With garden themed projects I love to add some small butterflies, bugs, even if I have to bring them in from another G45 collection like “Flutter” collection for example. 🙂

TIP 4: I love to make Home Decor and Altered art pieces. But I also love for the Decor pieces to have another added value, so I often turn them into a boxes. This is a perfect way to hide a gift for someone special or to have a place to stash some small memorabilia items in your Home decor pieces. Graphic 45 boxes are perfect for this kind of alterations.

I’ve also made a video tutorial with few creative process steps, tips and tricks to go along, to maybe help you with your projects and ideas.
