Step-by-Step Tutorial
This interactive pop-up card features three removable tags that rise when you open the card, making it a delightful surprise for any recipient. It also includes a built-in envelope for a note or even a gift card. Here’s a comprehensive guide to create your own version of this unique card!
Step 1: Prepare the Base of the Card
1.Cut the Kraft paper to 16 x 5 inches.
2.Score the middle at 8 inches using your scoring tool and fold along the score line.
Step 2: Create the Pop-Up Mechanism
1.Cut a second piece of Kraft paper to 16 x 5 inches (the same size as the card base).
2.Score vertically at the following measurements: 4 inches, 8 inches, and 12 inches. This will create four distinct sections.
3.Fold the paper in the following way:
4.Fold the 8-inch crease outward like a mountain fold (this will be the centre of your pop-up mechanism).
5.Fold the creases at the 4-inch and 12-inch marks inwards, like valley folds.
6.When you’re finished, the paper should look like a zigzag with the centre fold pushed outward.
Step 3: Prepare the Support Mechanism
1.Cut a piece of Kraft paper to 6 x 5 inches.
2.Score vertically & fold at 1 inch and 5 inches. This will create three distinct sections.
This support mechanism will hold the tags and help stabilize the pop-up mechanism.
Step 4: Cover the Kraft Sheets with Decorative Paper
1.Cover the 16 x 5-inch Kraft paper (card base) with G45 paper of your choice. You can use glue or double-sided tape to adhere the paper smoothly.
2.Do the same for the pop-up mechanism and support mechanism Kraft sheets.
Step 5: Create Slits for the Tags
1.Take the pop-up mechanism and using a paper knife, cut three evenly spaced slits along the middle section of the mechanism (before the mountain fold). These slits will hold the removable tags.
2.Repeat the same for the support mechanism Kraft paper at regular intervals. These slits will allow the tags to stand upright.
Step 6: Assemble the Card
1.Open the base card to a 90-degree angle.
2.Attach the support mechanism:
Take one edge of the support mechanism and glue it to the vertical side of the card.
3.Attach the pop-up mechanism:
4.Take the pop-up mechanism and glue side 1 (left side) and side 4 (right side) to the edges of the card. Align them perfectly with the base of the card. These will be the stabilizing sides of the mechanism.
5.Position the other edge of the support mechanism:
The other edge of the support mechanism will naturally rest against side 3 (middle section) of the pop-up mechanism. Glue this in place, ensuring the support mechanism is securely attached and balanced.
Step 7: Insert the Tags
1.Prepare the tags: You can cut small rectangular pieces of cardstock for the tags.
Insert the tags into the slits you created on the pop-up mechanism and support mechanism. As the card opens, the tags will pop up and stand upright, adding a 3D element to the card.
Step 8: Final Touches and Decoration
1.Add any final touches to your card, such as G45 diecut ephemera, stickers, chipboard elements etc.If you’d like, you can create a built-in envelope inside the card.
Once everything is assembled and dry, your interactive pop-up card is ready to surprise and delight the recipient with its rising tags and unique design.
Crafting doesn’t have to be serious—sometimes it’s just about having fun with scissors, glue, and way too many butterflies. So grab your supplies, watch the video, and let’s get those tags popping!
Happy Crafting Friends!

I love this pop up card. Are there any measurements anywhere to make it?
The measurements are listed above. Here they are for you as well.
For the pop-up mechanism we will need the following parts:
A piece is 1 1/2″x 8 1/4″
Score on the 8 1/4″ side at 1/2″; 3 1/2″ and 5 1/2″
B piece is 1 1/2″x 4″
Score on the 4″ side at 1/2″ and 3 1/2″
C piece is 1/2″x 3 5/8″
Score on the 3 5/8 side at 1/2 and 2 1/8″
Two D pieces are 3/8″ x 2 1/2″
Score on the 2 1/2 side at 1/2″; 1″ and 2″
