Adventure Awaits Layout
Tutorial by Maria Smeshkova
“Hello everyone!
Today I’m sharing a layout inspired by our family trip to Khao Sok National Park in Thailand, created with the beautiful Adventure Awaits collection. I wanted this page to feel layered, fresh, and full of natural details, so this collection was a perfect choice for documenting these memories.

I started by printing three photos from our trip and cutting them into large hexagons. I knew from the beginning that hexagons would become the main design element of this layout, so I built the whole composition around them.

For the background, I chose a rich green paper and framed it with a light green border. I also added decorative stitching around the background and around the photos to give everything a more finished look.

Next, I prepared several additional hexagons for layering. I stitched around all of these pieces as well, which helped tie all the layers together.

To decorate the page, I used die-cut leafy elements in both light green and dark green, then layered them on top of each other for extra depth and dimension. While arranging everything on the page, I felt the composition needed a large title, so I chose the word Smile to complete that part of the design.

Once I was happy with the arrangement, I started assembling the layout layer by layer. I used chipboard behind the hexagons to lift them and create dimension. Before adding the next layers, I tucked thread underneath some of the leafy elements to make the composition feel softer and more airy.

For the final touch, I added green crystals. They were a perfect match for the color palette and added just the right amount of sparkle.
I really love how this layout turned out. The hexagon design, layered foliage, stitching, and dimensional details all work together to highlight these special memories from Khao Sok.

Graphic 45 Tip: Let Your Photos Shape the Design
One of the easiest ways to elevate your travel scrapbook layouts is to choose a single design element that ties everything together. Maria used hexagons to crop her photos and repeated that shape throughout the page, creating movement and balance.
For even more visual interest:
- Layer patterned papers behind your photos.
- Add stitched details for texture.
- Use foliage die cuts to soften hard edges and frame your focal points.
- Lift photos with foam adhesive or chipboard to create depth.
These simple techniques help transform ordinary vacation photos into a page that tells the story of your adventure.
Hugs,
Mariia
