Making the Tuxedo Pockets

For the tuxedo pockets, I used black cardstock and scored the piece to perfectly fit my Graphic 45 Square Tags. The cardstock piece measures 11” x 4 ¼”, and is scored at 3 ⅛” and 7 ⅞”. Then, I measured down 3 ⅛” on each side and scored diagonally to the 3 ⅛” score lines. After folding on the score lines, I cut ¾” off the left side to get my pieces to line up in the center.

From the Farmhouse paper, I cut the following pieces (per tag):

  1. 4 ½” x 2 ½” (white chicken wire paper)
  2. 2 ¼” x 1 ¼” (The Good Life)
  1. 2 ⅞” square (yellow plaid paper) and then cut diagonally into two pieces
  2. Decorative corners using the metal dies or (1) chicken piece using the metal dies

Decorating the tuxedo pockets is quick and easy. Best of all, you can add as many additional embellishments as you choose!

Making the Tags

To make the tags, you will need the following pieces (per tag):

  1. Cardstock piece cut to 1” x 3 ¾” and scored at ½” on the 1” side
  1. Cardstock piece cut to 4 ½” x 4 ¼”
  1. 4 ½” x 5” piece of red heart/leaf patterned paper with the metal tag die
  1. 4 ½” x 5” piece of Farmhouse (b-side) paper with the metal tag die
  1. Metallic silver or silver embossed honeycomb die cut piece
  1. Cutout from General Store
  1. Ephemera piece from the Ephemera Assortment
  2. Chipboard charms and twine
  1. 6” length of ribbon

My tags have an extra fold out cardstock piece on the back, turning them into cards. I cut a piece of cardstock to make a hinge and glued the hinge piece to the back right side of the tag. Then, using a 4 ½” x 4 ¼” piece of cardstock, I rounded the corners to match the tag corners and adhered it to the hinge to create an extra panel.

The back side of the tag is decorated with the b-side from the Farmhouse paper. I left the fold out cardstock piece undecorated for photos or journaling since my tags will be added to a mini album.

For the tag front, I added the red paper as the base layer. Next, I cut the silver honeycomb die cut into two pieces and tucked them behind the black and white General Store image so it would look like chicken wire. I selected one piece from the Ephemera Assortment and layered it in the bottom corner. Topping the tag, I added a simple knotted ribbon with two chipboard charms tied into it that dangle down onto the tag front.

There is a full video tutorial of this project available on YouTube. I hope you will give it a try with the Farmhouse collection, or pick your favorite Graphic 45 collection and craft along! With Valentine’s Day coming up, I think this project would be perfect for Valentine’s cards. Designer Tip:
When creating tuxedo pockets, try experimenting with different Graphic 45 patterned papers for the pocket flaps to mimic the look of a real tuxedo jacket. Dark cardstock paired with patterned paper accents or metallic die cuts can create a striking contrast and make your tags stand out even more. This is also a great way to use paper scraps or leftover ephemera from your favorite Graphic 45 collections.

Kristine’s Tuxedo Pockets & Tags are a fun and versatile way to add interactive elements to your paper crafting projects. Whether you’re creating a mini album, handmade card, journal, or scrapbook page, this technique is sure to add charm, creativity, and a delightful surprise for anyone who opens your project.
