Junk Journal Cover Tutorial

Hello, G45ers!

With the new year just around the corner, now is the perfect time to create yourself (or a loved one) a DIY Junk Journal.  Today on the blog, Graphic 45 Brand Ambassador, Janus Zate shows us how to create a cover for a journal, but would also work perfectly for a mini album as well.  This journal features our new Woodland Friends paper collection, this collection is filled with beautiful pastel florals, plaids, and all your favorite furry friends, foxes, squirrels, and deer to name a few.  Enjoy the video tutorial and be sure to leave your gratitude for Janus in the comments below.

Woodland Friends Junk Journal

By Janus Zate

“Hello G45ers! It’s me, Janus, and today I’m sharing with you this Junk Journal Cover I made using Graphic 45’s Woodland Friends.

I love journals and while I like the journals I purchase, there is always something so special about making your own. I love how even more personal a journal becomes when you make it from scratch.

This is a B6 size journal, measured at about 12 inches in width and 7 1/2 inches in height. I used an aqua colored faux leather as the cover and added a touch of the collection onto the inner portion of the journal.

Tip: Save the outer part of the Chipboard and use it to add dimension to your design. Layers are always a great way to build your design and make certain items pop out.

My daughter loves journals just as much as I do and she’s been asking me to make her one since the first one I made for her. So this one is dedicated to her. You may have seen her little hands in the Autumn Home Decor video tutorial I made before.

I’ve always been drawn to light and colorful designs, so Woodland Friends was a great choice to make for a kid-friendly design while still maintaining my personal style.

Tip: Adding tattered scraps of fabric or lace allows your design to have rustic feel to it.
