“Junk Journaling is such an important part of my crafting journey. It led me to discover so many things I wanted to try out: scrapbooking, journaling, mixed media, you name it!

I made a junk journal album using Graphic 45’s Journaling Through Time, and this has quickly become a favorite. I leaned into soft vintage vibes to create a book utilizing the entire year’s calendar design of the papers, and it feels like a special book you can flip through. Each page is built with layered papers, pockets, tags and more!

I mixed scrapbook papers with bits of paper clusters, old tags, washi tape, and calendar cards for the months. I loved pairing bold colors with softer neutrals to create contrast and movement from spread to spread. And since this is still intended to be an album as well, I added in placeholders for photos I want to place. The best part of junk journaling is the sporadic layering, and just letting each page evolve naturally. There are no strict plans, just play.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to maximize your color motifs. You can go with monochromatic colors with junk journaling but it’s also a great way to explore multiple colors in one book. Add certain elements like torn book pages across your layers to create cohesion, confidence, and each page feels intentional.” ~Janus

Junk Journaling Tip: Let Color Do the Storytelling
One of the best takeaways from Janus’ project is how she uses color motifs to tie the whole journal together—while still letting each page have its own personality. Don’t be afraid to explore multiple colors throughout your book!
Try this:
Pick 1–2 repeating elements (like torn book pages, lace, or kraft cardstock) to create cohesion
Use bold accents in small doses (tags, clusters, tabs) to make your pages pop
Mix soft neutrals + bright tones to keep the spreads feeling balanced, not busy
Most importantly… don’t overplan—junk journaling is all about letting the pages evolve naturally!
We hope this Calendar Junk Journal Keepsake Album sparks your creativity and inspires you to make a journal you can flip through all year long! Whether you’re creating month-by-month memories, documenting your adventures, or simply layering for the joy of it—this is the kind of project that turns paper into something truly special.
Happy Papercrafting!
