It is a great day to learn two new pop-up mechanism techniques. These techniques really make a splash and can be used on handmade cards or albums. Along with this Ocean Blue Pop Up Card Graphic 45 Brand Ambassador, Cecilia Zertuche has been so kind as to share three tips and tricks and a video tutorial which are all very helpful when creating 3D projects. Grab your fussy cutting scissors and some paper and let’s dive right in!

“Hello G45ers, I’m so happy to share with you a new project with gorgeous Ocean Blue paper collection.

I have to say this collection has the most incredible colors, I went to the beach to make the pictures and the collection colors are exactly the same as the Ocean, I was really impressed.

I used 12” x 12” paper pad, 8” x 8” paper pad, Sticker sheet, Chipboards, and extra elements as, cheesecloth, a piece of die-cut, little pebbles, sequins, 2 brads, thin cotton cord, Walnut stain distress ink, corrugated cardboard, and cardstock.

I wanted to make a pop-up card that shows life inside the ocean, that’s why I chose this cylindrical shape pop up on the left side, and on the right side, I made a sliding strip to “move” the animals. In this tutorial you’ll learn how to make both mechanisms, and then you can embellish them with the fussy cutting elements, stickers, die-cut assortments, or anything you want to add, but I have some TIPS to make them work:

TIP 1: Use a piece of plastic or acetate to protect the paper below when you stick on top. You can see I added so many elements, but I use glue only on certain parts and protecting the paper below always.

TIP 2: Everytime you add a new element on pop ups structures, for example a piece of paper or embellishments, confirm the mechanism works perfectly, that means you have to close an open the card as many times you need, but at the end, you will have a beautiful card with movement.

TIP 3: When I’m preparing a new project I like to fussy cut and separate all the embellishments I want to use on it, so I have a cup or basket to have everything in one place, in that way I don’t forget to use them.
