Pop & Twist Card
Tutorial by Evanjelene
“There’s something magical about Christmas crafting. This Pop & Twist card is one of those creations that looks incredibly fancy when finished, but is secretly powered by a few clever folds and a bit of patience (and maybe a cup of hot chocolate). If you love cards that surprise people, open dramatically and bring out instant “How did you make this?” reactions, then this project is going to be your new favourite. Using the beautiful Deck the Halls collection from Graphic45, we’ll build a twisty, poppy centre that shows off a festive window scene.
And don’t worry, I’ve kept the steps clear and simple, sprinkled in a little humour, and added a video tutorial for when your brain wants to actually see the fold. Now let’s dive in and give your cardstock its moment to shine!

- Take your 8 × 27 cm kraft sheet.
- Mark and divide vertically into 13.5 cm + 13.5 cm.
- Mark horizontally into 4 cm + 4 cm (this is your centre zone).
- Score the first 13.5 cm vertical panel.
- On the top and bottom edges of the centre zone, measure 4 cm from the centre and connect the points to draw an X.
- Score along the diagonals of that X.
- Fold along both diagonal lines firmly.
- Flip the sheet and fold along the 13.5 cm scoreline.
- Flip again and fold until the shape resembles a tiny paper house.
- Trim the top slightly for smoother movement.
- Window Frame
Materials: Kraft 8 × 24 cm, scoring tool, scissors, 6 × 3 cm strip.
- Take your 8 × 24 cm kraft sheet.
- Divide lengthwise into four 6 cm panels and score all lines.
- Fold into a W shape: Mountain → Valley → Mountain.
- On the inside of the 2nd and 3rd panels, draw a 1 cm border.
- Score the side farthest from the centre; cut the other three sides.
- Fold the cut flaps inwards, resting them on top of each other.
- Take your 6 × 3 cm strip, score lengthwise, fold, apply tacky tape, and secure the flaps in place.
- Card Base
Materials: Kraft 30 × 10 cm.
- Take the 30 × 10 cm kraft sheet.
- Fold it in half to create the card base.
- (Optional) Add a cute Tag Die closure with magnets for a neater finish.
- Assembly
- Decorate the twist mechanism using Deck the Halls papers and elements.
- Attach the twist mechanism to the centre of the card base.
- Trim any parts that interfere with movement.
- Glue the window frame onto the pop-up mechanism.
- Test the twist motion — it should open smoothly.
- Add ephemera, chipboard, candies, poinsettias, snowflakes — festive chaos encouraged!
- Final Touches
- Add light embellishments and sequins if you like sparkle.
- Test the opening again to ensure nothing blocks the movement.
- Add a sentiment, message, or tiny winter scene behind the window.
