Farmhouse Envelop Album

Tutorial by Maria Smeshkova

“Hello everyone!
Today, I’m excited to share my latest project, a fully customized mini album created using a ready-made Policy Envelope Album base from Graphic 45. Instead of assembling the base as it was originally designed, I decided to completely transform it and adapt it to my own vision.

I carefully took the album apart, removed the cover pockets, and began rebuilding it step by step. I wanted to add more warmth, texture, and durability to the structure, so I incorporated fabric into the design. I wrapped the cover in fabric, starting with the spine and then folding and adhering the sides. After that, I stitched around the perimeter for a beautiful finished look and added ribbon ties. To reinforce the binding, I prepared six fabric hinge pieces, finished their edges with a zigzag stitch on my sewing machine, folded them, and stitched them in place. These fabric elements strengthen the connection between the pages and the spine while adding a soft feel to the album.

I assembled the pages starting from the back, stitching each one into the binding. Sewing through multiple layers was not always easy, and some stitches turned out slightly uneven, but I later covered those areas with decorative scrapbook paper borders, which added charm and character.

Throughout the album, I incorporated several extra pages to increase both interactivity and photo capacity. These include plastic sleeves filled with scrapbook paper, vellum inserts scored and attached to the envelope pages, and cardstock inserts. All of these elements function as additional interactive pages, creating movement and dimension within the album.

The Farmhouse collection truly defines this project. The rich reds, warm yellows, and rustic tones are absolutely perfect for farm photography, countryside memories, autumn walks, family gatherings, and photos with animals. The vintage charm and detailed illustrations make every page feel warm and nostalgic.

I cut apart border sheets and journaling cards to create more embellishments and layered clusters. I used coordinating dies to create layered flowers by stacking different colors together. Many decorative elements were intentionally not glued down completely so that photos can be tucked underneath later. This keeps the album flexible and practical. Inside the envelopes, I added stitched tags that can be used for either photos or journaling.

Although the decoration throughout the album is relatively clean and simple, the structure allows it to hold a surprisingly large number of photographs. There are multiple pockets, tuck spots, envelopes, interactive flaps with built-in magnets from the original base, and layered clusters that double as photo holders.

This project shows how versatile a Graphic 45 album base can be. By deconstructing it, adding fabric, stitching, interactive extra pages, and thoughtful layered details, I was able to turn a ready-made foundation into a completely personalized keepsake album.
I hope this inspires you to experiment with your own album bases and truly make the project your own.

Designer Tips from Maria

Don’t be afraid to take apart a premade album base. Rebuilding it allows you to customize the structure to fit your vision and increase durability.

Use fabric for strength and softness. Fabric hinges not only reinforce the binding but also add a beautiful tactile element to your album.

Let embellishments work double-duty. Layered clusters and partially adhered elements can act as hidden photo holders.

Cover imperfections creatively. Uneven stitching or layered seams can be disguised with decorative borders, turning small mistakes into charming details.

Keep it interactive. Vellum inserts, envelope pockets, magnetic flaps, and removable tags create movement and make your album more engaging.

Maria’s Farmhouse Envelope Album beautifully showcases how versatile a Graphic 45 album base can truly be. With a little imagination, fabric, stitching, and thoughtful layering, a ready-made foundation becomes a deeply personal keepsake filled with rustic elegance and interactive surprises.

We hope this project inspires you to experiment, customize, and truly make your next album your own!
