Seas the Day Double Layout

Tutorial by Kristine Woods

“Hi crafty friends. Today, I want to share a project especially for those of you who make traditional 12×12 scrapbook layouts. If you’re anything like me, you love to see all of the gorgeous Graphic 45 card kits and album kits each month, but you also wish there was a kit for layouts. With that idea in mind, I took the vibrant Seas the Day 12×12 Collection Pack and challenged myself to make as many layouts as I could with it. The double layout pictured in this post has a full video tutorial so you can follow along and create one of your own. So grab your supplies and join me in the tutorial!

Right Page Layout

My idea for this double layout was to make it look like the photos are under water. I knew I wanted to use the Dive into Happiness paper for the background on my first page. However, because it has such a busy pattern, I decided to cut the paper to make some blank space for my photos.

TIP: when using busy patterns or papers with larger images, try to find a way to cut the paper to use the pattern or image on a more neutral background.

To help the photos stand out on the dark teal background, I added the yellow patterned paper mats. The white cardstock is a placeholder for photos since I don’t have photos for my layout.

Next, comes my favorite part – fussy cutting the embellishments! Using the middle portion of Dive into Happiness, I fussy cut several of the fish to decorate the photo mats. Before adhering them down, I decided my page needed a title so I cut the “Ride the Waves” sentiment from one of the large journaling cards.

TIP: not a fan of fussy cutting? Purchase the Seas the Day Ephemera Assortment instead!

Small pieces of leftover chipboard were placed under the fussy cut fish and my title to pop them up and give the layout some dimension. I also fussy cut the coral pieces from the journaling card for added embellishment. To finish the page, I used silver matte pearl gems in clusters around the layout.

Left Page Layout

With the first page complete, I wanted the second page to match and compliment it. Using the signature Seas the Day paper, I cut out the center section and replaced it with the remaining piece of yellow patterned paper.

I added the smaller frame fussy cut from the journaling card, along with the large frame from the center of the Seas the Day paper, to make the main feature of this page.

To embellish the frames, I fussy cut the sea turtle and remaining fish from the center section of Dive into Happiness. Scraps of chipboard were used to add dimension to these pieces. The other fussy cut pieces were cut from the inside of the large frame as well as the bottom section of the paper. Silver gems were added to match the first page layout.

Crafty Tips from Kristine’s Tutorial

  • Tame busy backgrounds: If your paper has a bold or detailed print, cut it strategically to create neutral spaces that make your photos pop.

  • Frame it up: Use patterned frames or journaling card cutouts to highlight your focal point photos and give your layout a cohesive flow.

  • Pop it with dimension: Layer scraps of chipboard or foam tape under fussy cut embellishments for added depth and movement.

  • Fussy cutting shortcut: Don’t love cutting out details by hand? The Seas the Day Ephemera Assortment is a quick and easy alternative.

  • Add sparkle & shine: Gems, pearls, or even a hint of distress ink can elevate your pages with texture and visual interest.
