#SimplyG45 Side Step Cards
For Autumn or Halloween

By Sandy Trefger

“No matter how you celebrate the season–Autumn or Halloween (or both), you’ll want to create a few of these fun Side Step cards with your favorite Graphic 45 Collection.  While these cards look very complicated, you can easily finish one or two in 60 minutes or less!  I’ve created a Snapguide tutorial for you on how to assemble the base and finish it using the Autumn sheets from the beautiful Seasons collection.  However, you can use the same base and create a totally frightful Halloween card with Master Detective!

Step by Step Card Tutorial

Tip  #1:  Use a bone folder to burnish and score each fold line several times to get a really good fold for each section of a side step card.  This will help create a strong base for your fussy cut elements.  Also, add a folding support piece between the two main sections really helps the card to stand up.

Tip #2:  To save your larger 12×12 paper sheets for bigger projects, look to your 8×8 paper pad for your cards.  However, the larger prints from the 12×12 do make fabulous cards too which is what I used for my cards.  You can save some of your papers by using extra ephemera cards from the collection for some of your fussy cut images.  Layer lots of different images and elements on each section of your card to make it really full.

Fun Facts:

  • Autumn is my favorite crafting season and Halloween is my favorite crafting holiday!  I love all seasons and holidays but really think these two are my favorites.

  • As much as I love Halloween, I did not go Trick or Treating until I was 10 years old!  We lived on a farm 17 miles from town and only celebrated Halloween at school by making hall decorations out of paper–black cats, witches, Jack-o-lanterns and attending the school fall or Halloween carnival.  New neighbors that moved from the city to a farm nearby when I was ten, invited me to go with them for Trick or Treating and helped me to make a ghost costume from a white sheet.  It was so much fun! I loved it so much that as a Mom I always took our kids Trick or Treating, hosted Halloween parties and still decorate our home with frightful stuff and create lots of Halloween projects.

I hope you enjoy these fun but #simplyg45 easy step side cards and create some for your favorite season and holiday!”  Happy Crafting! ~ Sandy Trefger
