I’m Gonna Buy a Paper Doll – Easel Card

By Kathy Clement

"You’re never too old to play with paper dolls, especially when those paper dolls are part of a gorgeous paper collection from Graphic 45!  Penny’s Paper Doll Family is just loaded with beautiful patterns, images, and outfits that take me right back to happy childhood hours spent playing with my own beloved paper dolls.

I especially love the vintage clothing in this collection, so I decided to highlight it by creating this 6” x 6” square easel card.  Each darling vintage costume is triple matted and laid out in a sort of window pane design." ~ Kathy Clement

Tips:

  1. Take it to the mat!  Matting focal images really helps them to stand out on the page.  Since these images are all the same size, you can make the job easier by measuring and cutting the mats all at the same time.  Measure each layer just slightly larger than the next, then assemble.

  2. Add extra depth and dimension by backing each image with foam tabs or cardboard from the packages you receive in the mail.

  3. Crocheted lace adds vintage charm and texture to the card design.  I used ⅛” Scor-Tape to layer the crocheted lace over Antique Gold Silky Crushed Ribbon.

  4. Use border stamps to create the “stopper” for your easel card.  First I cut the row of stamps out with shaped scissors.  Then I backed them with cardboard packaging to lift them up off the card base.

Winter Wonderland Layout

By Maggi Harding

I love this year's Christmas collection with it's traditional reds and greens and so perfect for this layout of my great niece and nephew.  I wanted this great photo to be the focal point so it is centered on a large punched doily with two floral clusters, simple but effective.  Tip:  You can make really pretty floral clusters by first fussy cutting flowers from design paper and then layering dimensional flowers over the fussy cut ones.  In this case I used a pine cone and berries branch along with a single bloom.  I dry brushed a little white paint on the pine cones and flower to add a touch of winter.  Then, to add a festive look, I highlighted some of the flower petals and berries on the design paper with red Stickles.” ~Maggi Harding
