Jenn DuBell – USA

I have been a lover of art and crafting for as long as I can remember. My passion for paper crafting started when my children came along and it has grown since. Now I have 5 beautiful grandbabies and love creating layouts and altered projects using their pics! My favorite projects to create are mini albums and folios and I love to find new ways to add pockets, flaps and other fun interactive parts to them. I am a huge fan of fussy cutting and creating dimension. Also a lover and collector of antiques and vintage items, I often draw inspiration from those for my work. I discovered Graphic 45 papers many years ago and have acquired nearly every collection since! I am very excited to be a part of this team and look forward to inspiring you with my creations!

Wild & Free Album with Inserts

By Jenn DuBell

#G45Expression

Hello everyone! Today I am so excited to share my first project for the Graphic 45 2022-2023 Brand Ambassador term. This first project we were asked to create a project that reflects ourselves as artists using my favorite medium, color palette, etc. Being a lover of animals I felt the Wild and Free collection would be the perfect medium to create a zoo album. I will be using this album to showcase pictures of my grandkids at the zoo and of course the animals too! The soft palette and detailed imagery is perfect.

Below is a page by page view and cutting instructions to create it!

Album with Insert featuring Wild & Free by Jenn DuBell

Beginning with the lining which is matted in tan cardstock. Both have pockets using the blue giraffe print from the 12X12 Patterns & Solids.

Mattes – 2 -5 ⅜”X7 ⅞”
Cut from 8X8 “Mighty Menagerie” side A. 2 – 5 ¼”X7 ¾”

Blue giraffe print P&S – 2 – 6 ⅜”X3 ½” – score down both sides and across bottom of each piece at ½”, miter bottom corners and burnish. Adhere to page as shown above.

Embellish pockets with stickers and fussy cuts.

Next, there are two three quarter sized pages. One at the beginning and one at the end.

These are adhered to the spine by the ½’ hinge placing one in the front and one in the back. The middle page system described below will adhere on top of these hinges.

For these cut 4 mattes, 2 blue and 2 tan. Cut these to 4 ⅛”X7 ⅝”. From the brown leaf P&S cut 2 to 4”X7 ½”. From the 8X8 Lush and Lovely (A) cut 2 at 4”X7 ½”.

Embellish with stickers and fussy cuts. Two of the pages have embellishments that are tuck spots for photo mattes. These mattes are made with heavy ivory cardstock and measure 3 ¼”X6 ½” with corners rounded.

Next, the middle main page system. This is done in the stack the deck method.

Once assembled this will create a booklet. Burnish all folds well and then apply score tape to the spine and then adhere in the book. This method is shown in the video tutorial.

The pages can be decorated before or after they are in the book. All of my Wild & Free papers were inked on the edges in brown ink as well.

For the pages, all are matted in solid cardstocks in tan and blush. There are a total of 12 mattes. In my album I alternated the colors on each set of pages. These measure 5 ⅛”X7 ⅝” cut 6 tan and 6 blush.

The first page is matted in tan followed by pink P&S 5”X7 ½”. This page has a 1 ½”X7 ½” belly band cut from the 8X8 (A) Lush and Lovely.

The next pages are done in sets of 2. Each page has a matte followed by a 3 ⅜”X7 ½” piece and a 1 ½”X7 ½” strip to create a tuck spot for photo mattes. This is done by only gluing the outer edge of three sides. The photo mattes were made using heavy ivory cardstock and measure 4 ¼”X6 ¾” perfect for 4×6 photos! Each was stamped using the coordinating stamp set.

For the cover done last, I have used a jade green cardstock for mattes for the cover back and spine. They measure 5 ⅜”X7 ⅞” (2) and for the spine 2 ¼”X 7 ⅞”. The Wild & Free papers are as follows:

Cover and back – 8X8 (B) All Creatures Great and Small 5 ¼”X7 ¾” (2)

Spine- Strip of side a of the same

For the cover I have used fussy cuts, flowers, and a shaker box element.

So Fun!!

For the back I used scraps of chipboard and the P&S green to create a frame. I added a journaling card from the collection to the frame.

The spine has a bow using the gorgeous G45 Classic Ivory & Natural Linen trim. A handmade charm hangs from the bow for a little extra.

A little tip for making charms for your albums! If you do not have the chipboards, fussy cut from the paper or use the stickers to make your own. Just add to chipboard and cut around to create the proper shape.

I have also created several inserts for this album.

One of my favorite techniques is to use the journaling cards for my inserts. There are two of each in the package so I am able to create cards with the front for the cover and the journaling portion on the inside. I love the versatility!

The inserts created for this album are 2 large cards with a side open style and 2 smaller cards with a lift up style. These were created using heavy ivory cardstock. The larger measure 4 ¼”X6 ¼” and the smaller are landscape and are 4 ½”X 3 ½”. They are matted in blue and blush cardstocks.

Happy Papercrafting!
