Christmas Tags with Interactive Surprise
Tutorial by Maria Smeshkova
“Hello everyone!
This year, I created a set of interactive Christmas tags using the stunning “Deck the Halls” collection by Graphic 45. These festive tags turned out to be not only a charming detail but also a thoughtful keepsake that makes any gift feel extra special.
Each tag features an interactive mechanism; when opened, it reveals a little surprise inside. I placed photos of my daughter there, and these tags will be attached to gifts for her grandparents. I can already imagine their smiles when they see them! It’s such a lovely way to add warmth and personal meaning to a Christmas present.
The design itself was so much fun to create. Layered circles, die cuts, chipboard pieces, and ephemera from the collection helped me build depth and texture. I added a few ribbons and small jingle bells, so every tag jingles softly, bringing that unmistakable festive sound that instantly sets the holiday mood.
On the back side, I made a pocket, a small detail that makes the tag even more functional. You can add a note, a mini photo, or a short wish for your loved ones. These little hidden moments make the project even more personal.
I love that each tag tells its own story, one in cool winter blues, another in classic Christmas reds, and the third in rich green tones. Together, they perfectly capture the spirit of the season: cozy, joyful, and full of love.
Handmade projects like this remind me why I adore creating for the holidays. Every element carries a bit of heart and a touch of magic.
