Candy Corn Folio
By Kathy Clement
“I had it in mind to create a folio with an attached Halloween candy treat. After much thought and digging through my stash, I found some packaging that I thought would work well. I washed and dried it thoroughly, filled it with candy corn, added a fussy cut image from Halloween in Wonderland then clipped it to the cover of my folio with a binder clip.
To help it stay put, I placed removable glue dots on the back side, then decorated it up with a sticker from the Deluxe Collector’s Edition, some Petaloo flowers, and tiny pumpkins. Now you can have your candy corn and eat it, too!
Tip: Add dimension to your project by backing your fussy cut images with cardboard packaging. I save the Priority Mail boxes from Brand Ambassador shipments and cut them to size. It saves me lots of money. It also means that I can cut the cardboard to the exact size I need.
Tip: Use border pieces from the collection to make quick paper layers. I’ve used a border piece on both the top and the bottom of this folio cover.
This folio measures 7 ¾” x 5 ¾” with a ¾” spine. I’ve used ½” Scor-Tape to attach the black satin ribbon closure.
Inside the album, you’ll find lots of fun interactive features.
This fold-out page has a hidden photo mount tag hidden behind it.
Tip: Staples Square Black tags make great photo mounts! Cover with a 4” x 4” square of designer paper, add a sticker border and the tag is ready in an instant. I rounded the corners of my designer paper with a ¼” corner punch.
Tip: Adding a belly band to a photo mount is easy when you use a border strip. Simply cut the border from the paper collection. Place it over the tag or photo mount and fold. Wrap the ends around to the back, cut any excess paper and glue the ends together. Now you can slip a photo or photos under the belly band along with fun ephemera pieces from the collection.
I created a box style pocket on the left hand side of the folio to hold an assortment of ATC tags and more photo mounts. These tags are made with the ATC Black Alphabet Banner Tags.
There’s room on the back of each tag for photos or journaling. Or use the tags as place cards at your Halloween party. You could even use them as invitations!
Once you open the fold-out page, you’ll find another large photo mount/belly band combo. I just love tucking these fussy cut images under the belly band. Plus it gives me lots of room for journaling or small photos on the back side.
The center panel of this tri-fold folio contains a double waterfall feature. Each page has room for journaling and photos so you can capture all the memories of your fun Halloween adventures.
The drawer labels make fabulous pockets. I filled mine with stickers that I backed with black cardstock. You still have lots of room to add small photos, too.
I glued just the edge of these images to the waterfall so that photos can be slipped behind. This large sticker is a great place to write down your memories.
Tip: Black cardstock makes images pop off the page. Add the sticker to the cardstock, then trim around, leaving a small margin. It’s a simple and effective trick.
I’ve created a 10 minute YouTube video tour of the album so you can see how all the pages come together and see the various mechanisms work. So grab some candy corn and enjoy!” ~Kathy
