Looking to make a home decor piece for your shelves or a mini album to store your photos and memories? Why not do both with one Unique and Unusual Cabinet Mini Album? This stunning project and step by step tutorial have been created for us by the Fabulous, Glenys Vidal. Glenys has used our Olde Curiosity Shoppe collection that has been retired, but we think this would look great in our Dreamland paper collection as well. Olde Curiosity Shoppe Album
By Glenys Vidal
“Hello, G45ers! Today I am so happy to be back with a spooky project just in time for Fall an Olde Curiosity Shoppe Album. This album will serve double duty, firstly as storage for Halloween photos, but also as decoration for my craft room during the month of October.
I love crafting during the holidays and love to use my paper collections to create decorative pieces for my home. For this year, I wanted to use the fabulous Olde Curiosity Shoppe collection to make an album for photos that will look great displayed open-faced on my craft room’s bookshelf.
Take a peek into Gleny's #CraftRoom in this video tour:
At first, I wanted to use the collection’s papers to make a configuration box with different compartments and fill it with all the amazing images from the collection. But the more I worked on it, the more I wanted to shift gears and make a full album with it. Then I decided, why not just do both? Using chipboard, I created a double sided album with a configuration tray on one side and full album pages on the other side. Make sure to check the end of the post, where I have some pictures of how I created the base of this unique album.
But first, let's look at the configuration tray. Using chipboard, I created a frame with different compartments and filled them up with papers and fussy cut images from the collection.
Of course, I wanted the image of the lady to be my focal point. I think she is the collector of all of those unusual pieces.
But every single compartment has a curiosity of its own. Each one just ignites your imagination.
On the album side I made lots of pockets, flaps inserts to hold photos. I love how every combination of paper I used matched to perfection.
I also used some papers from the Love Notes collection in this project, and it worked really well! I just love how every collection from graphic 45 can be mixed and matched to create stunning results.
I think I was a little bit obsessed with the butterflies of this collection.
I just love fussy cutting them!
This is how my album looks sitting on my shelf. I think it makes a nice addition to my Halloween decor for this year. I love how surprised people look when they open it and see what’s inside.
Album Construction Tutorial Steps:
I made my base using chipboard. The completed album size I wanted was 6 3/4” x 9 3/4” with a 3” spine, so I started cutting out those pieces.
I added a frame of 1-inch of chipboard around the left side of the inside cover.
Using strips of chipboard I made my divisions for every configuration box.
I added an accordion fold binding to attach my pages to the right side of the album
This a view of the album closed, where you can see how both pieces fit nicely inside. I added a ribbon closure to hold them securely.
I had such a great time building the final album, and displaying it on my bookshelf! Thank you so much for reading, I hope that you liked this project and can’t wait to see you soon with more projects.” ~Glenys
