Interactive Slider Card

Tutorial by Evanjelene

“Hello lovely people,

You know that moment when someone opens a handmade card and suddenly pauses… because something moves? That tiny second of confusion followed by excitement is exactly why I love interactive elements so much.

Let me tell you a quick story.

Last month, I gave a handmade album to a friend. She politely flipped through the pages with the usual reactions.
Then she pulled one tab accidentally.

The page slid open.

She gasped like she had discovered hidden treasure. Suddenly she was pulling every tab, checking every corner, and calling everyone in the room to see “this magic card thing.”

That’s the power of interactive pages. They turn viewers into participants. They don’t just look at your work but they play with it.

And honestly? That’s when handmade projects become unforgettable.

Today I’m sharing one of my favourite easy interactive mechanisms — a Slider Card that works beautifully inside albums or as a standalone card.

Slider Card That Wows!

✂️ Materials Used

* Kraft cardstock

* Scoreboard & bone folder

* Paper trimmer / scissors

* Glue or strong adhesive

* Pattern papers (I used designs from the Always & Forever collection)

* Ephemera elements

* Chipboard embellishments

* Pencil & ruler

Part A — Creating the Slider Base

  • Take Kraft paper measuring 9.5” x 6”.
  • Using a scoreboard, score at 4.75” along the 9.5” side.
  • Fold in half and crease firmly.
  • Draw a line 1.5” from the centre fold.
  • From this line, draw perpendicular lines at:

            0.25”,  2 7/8″, 3 1/8”, 5 7/8”

  • Cut away the unwanted portions as shown in the video.

Part B — Creating the Slider Panel

  • Take Kraft paper measuring 6” x 7”.
  • Score at 4” along the 7” side.
  • Fold the cardstock.
  • One side will naturally be larger than the other — fold so the larger area remains on one side.

Keep Part A open.

Glue Part B onto Part A so that the larger section sits over the 6” x 4.75” area of Part A.

Locking Mechanism

  • Take a Kraft strip measuring 10” x 0.75”.
  • Fold 2” from both ends.
  • Use this strip to hold the interactive slider in place (as shown in the video).

To secure it:

Adhere another Kraft strip measuring 6” x 3.75” to the base of the locking mechanism.

And just like that — your pop-up slider mechanism is ready!

Decoration Time

This is where personality enters the project.

I used my favourite patterns from the Always & Forever collection and layered them generously (because you already know layering is my love language).

* Pattern papers for background interest

* Ephemera for storytelling

* Chipboard elements for dimension and drama

Why Interactive Elements Matter

Think of a normal card as a photograph.

An interactive card?

It’s a conversation.

It slows people down.

It makes them curious.

It invites touch, surprise, and emotion.

Whether you’re making albums, memory books, or handmade cards, adding even one moving element instantly elevates the experience.

Plus… let’s be honest — we’re all secretly big kids who enjoy sliding things open just to see what happens.

Thank you so much for spending a little creative time with me today. I hope this slider mechanism inspires you to add movement, fun, and a tiny bit of magic to your next project.

Happy crafting and happy layering always!”

With love,

Eva

Pro Tips for Creating Interactive Slider Cards

  • Measure twice, cut once: Precise measurements are key to ensuring your slider mechanism works smoothly.
  • Use strong adhesive: Interactive elements need durability—opt for high-quality glue or tape runner.
  • Test before decorating: Assemble your slider base and test the movement before adding layers and embellishments.
  • Keep bulk in mind: Too many thick embellishments can interfere with the sliding motion—balance dimension with function.
  • Layer with intention: Use patterned papers, ephemera, and chipboard to guide the eye and enhance the storytelling.
  • Watch the process video: Seeing the mechanism in action makes all the difference—don’t skip the #G45Reel!

We hope this Interactive Slider Card tutorial inspires you to add movement, creativity, and a little magic to your next project. There’s something truly special about handmade cards that surprise and delight—and this design does exactly that.
