“What started as a pastime turned into a profession. Kristine has been dabbling in various crafty pursuits since childhood, but discovered the magic of scrapbooking in college. Later, when she stumbled on the world of mini albums and the Graphic 45 brand, she was smitten. Since then, she has retired from healthcare and works full-time for her small business, K. Nichole Designs, Limited. She spends her days designing mini album tutorials featuring her own laser cut products, and also hosts mini album workshops and scrapbooking retreats in the Pittsburgh, PA area. If she’s not crafting, Kristine can be found hiking or playing with her 1-year-old Australian Shepherd puppy, Sadie.

Fairy Boutique Mini Album with Cover and Base Page Tutorial

by Kristine Woods

I am so excited, and honored, to be invited back to the Graphic 45 Brand Ambassador team. For my first project, I am using my new favorite Graphic 45 collection, Fairy Boutique. This is such a whimsical collection and I love the adorable fairy images and fairy dresses featured throughout the collection.

I have created a video tutorial to show how to make the album cover and base pages for a mini album. The method I used does not include hinged pages, and is made from scored pages instead. While the tutorial does not include instructions for making the page embellishments, I will share a flip through of the finished project along with photos for inspiration in your own project.

Graphic 45 Supplies

Other Supplies

  • Chipboard cover (I used my laser cut cover, but you can substitute for chipboard)
    • Front and back covers: 5” x 7”
    • Left spine: 1 ½” x 7”
    • Right spine: 1 ⅝” x 7”
    • Curved closure: 1 ¼” x 7”
  • Cardstock (connector pieces, or to wrap your chipboard cover) and for matting pieces for front cover
  • Magnets (for front cover only)
  • Laces and trims to match the collection
  • Pearls
  • Basic craft supplies: scoring board/tool, paper trimmer, scissors, ruler, adhesive

Album Base

The base pages of my album are all created using Patterns & Solids papers rather than plain cardstock. This will cut down on the bulk from multiple layers of paper, but also showcase the subtle prints on these papers. Using all 8 designs, I alternated between each of the four colors to create my pages.

Embellishments Using Metal Dies

Once my album cover and base pages were assembled, I used some of my Graphic 45 metal dies to create embellishments for the pages. First, I used the tag and pocket dies to create inserts for four of my pages. Then, I used the policy envelope die to create pockets for the other four pages. For the pages opposite my die cut pockets, I created simple photo mats with the Patterns & Solids paper. The decorative corner dies are perfect for holding the photo mats on the pages.

Decorating the Pages

Once my die cut pockets were added to my pages, I used my 8×8 Collection Pack to create additional flaps and belly bands. Then, I added flat lace to the pages to add some texture to my pages. Next, I used the Rub-on Transfers to add a subtle embellishment to the solid sides of the pages. They are a great way to add detail without adding bulk to the pages. Finally, I placed stickers on the front of pockets, tags, and photo mats throughout my album.

Finishing Touches

To give my album a more whimsical touch, I added a mossy green fun fir around the edges of the front and back covers. I also had a cute green leaf trim in my stash that reminded me of the leaves on the spine of the album. I added the leaf trim down the left side of the front cover and added tiny gold metallic pearls to it.

Tips from Kristine’s Fairy Boutique Album

·Use Patterns & Solids for Base Pages
Instead of plain cardstock, Kristine uses our Fairy Boutique Patterns & Solids to build her base pages. This reduces bulk and shows off the soft prints beautifully.

·Add Pockets & Inserts with Dies
Graphic 45 Metal Dies are the perfect way to add interactive elements. Kristine used our Tag & Pocket Dies for inserts and the Policy Envelope Die for hidden journaling spots.

·Decorate Without the Bulk
Rub-on Transfers and stickers are lightweight yet add layers of detail. Use them on solid sides or pockets for a polished, professional look.

·Bring in Texture with Trims
Laces, pearls, and fun trims (like Kristine’s mossy green fir and leaf ribbon!) add fairy-tale charm while keeping the album tactile and unique.

·Think Playful Finishing Touches
Gold pearls, whimsical trims, and dimensional embellishments transform your mini album into a magical keepsake that feels as special as the memories it will hold.

We’re so thrilled to welcome Kristine Woods back as a Graphic 45 Brand Ambassador, and we can’t wait to see what else she’ll create this year. Ready to make your own magical keepsake? Watch Kristine’s full Fairy Boutique Mini Album video tutorial, gather your supplies, and let your creativity fly!
