Fairie Dust 8×8 Mini Album

By Sandy Trefger

"Sometimes you need a quick and simple album.  While this 8×8 album may look like it took a lot of time, it really didn’t and it’s perfect for a Simply G45 project!  I have made many of these albums out of different 8×8 Graphic 45 paper pads and of course, was inspired by the fabulous Fairie Dust collection to create this one.

How to Create an 8×8 Scrapbook Album from Scratch

Graphic 45 Supplies:

Other Supplies:

  • Medium Weight Chipboard. 2 each 12×12
  • Black Cardstock, 8 – 10 sheets 12×12
  • Small Ponytail Hair Elastic, Black
  • Metal Eyelet &  Eyelet Setting Tool
  • Lace
  • Ribbon
  • Vintage Buttons (Optional)
  • Assorted Silk Flowers
  • Decorative Corner Punch
  • Clear Glitter Brush Pen
  • Glue or Favorite Adhesive
  • Double Sided Tape such as Scor-tape â…œ” or ½” and ¼”
  • 1” circle punch or tab punch

The inside pages are created from the 8×8 patterned papers in the collection.  The only cutting you need to do is to trim off the manufacturer strip on one edge of each sheet.  You can use any type of page hinge that you can create from black cardstock.. It will need to fit within the spine area of your 8×8 album.  I used a hidden hinge and you can find several instructional videos on how to create one on YouTube.

Tip:  Use ephemera cards or tags to create tuck spots or small pockets on your pages.  Add photo mats cut from black cardstock. A belly band created from a strip of the paper also works well as a tuck spot for more ephemera cards.

Tip: For a full page (8”) pocket across the bottom of a page, cut a strip of patterned paper from an extra sheet and glue along the bottom edge and the two sides to create a flat pocket.

Fun Fact:  I’ve always loved scrapbooking.  My sister and I had so much fun one summer, re-making our parents scrapbook albums and adding quotes and decorative elements.  That love just naturally evolved into scrapbooking all of my own photos later on and then making and creating albums for my photos like this one.

This 8×8 album can be easily assembled and completed in about an hour as long as you keep your pages on the simple side without lots of decorating.  Just create a few pockets and tuck in your photo mats and ephemera cards. I hope you’ll grab some chipboard, cardstock and an 8×8 paper pad to create your own album.  Happy Crafting! ~ Sandy Trefger
