Sun Kissed Window Shadow Box

Hello, G45ers!

Sun Kissed Window Shadow Box

“If you’re like me, the beach is your happy place.  There’s no better way to renew your mind, body and spirit than spending a day soaking up the Sun, the Sand and The Sea!  So when Graphic 45 released Sun Kissed, their latest beach themed collection, I could not wait to play with it. The sun-drenched colors, ocean images and beautiful florals in this collection work perfectly in this G45 Staples Window Box Display.

 

 

I’d never decorated a Staples Window Box before, and I was pleasantly surprised to find how easy it is to do.  Here are a few tips that you might find helpful.

 

Tip:

• It’s quick and easy to cut the signature page to fit the back of the Window Box.  Measure your paper to 9.75” square, and it should pop right into the recessed area on the back of the frame.

• Cut the pieces to line the interior of the box at the same time.  I cut sixteen 1 ⅝” x 3 ⅞” rectangles of the striped paper. Then I inked the edges with G45 Decades Bon Voyage Blue Ink before gluing into the openings.  

• Cut a thin border strip to cover the cross pieces inside the Window Box.

• Give your Window Box a beachy feel by stringing a little banner from corner to corner in one of the windows.

 

 

I had such fun filling the individual frames with fussy cut images, real sea shells, sand, and a little glass vial.  

 

Tip: To add extra dimension to your project, glue fussy cut images to the sides of the frame at staggered depths.  Or, create a little pop up mechanism and attach the fussy cut turtles to the back of the window.

 

Tip: Turn a Shabby Chic Door Pull upside down and fill with seaweed (I picked mine up on the beach and dried it) and a miniature sand dollar.

 

 

Adding fussy cut flowers and images to the sides of the Window Box gives it a real feeling of depth.  

 

 

I backed fussy cut items with waste chipboard to lend them strength and stability.  The title is popped up on waste chipboard as well.

 

It’s wonderful to have a beachy collection to play with in the dead of winter!  It’s a good reminder that summer will come around again soon, and we can all dig our toes back into the warm sand at the beach.  Until then, I plan to dig into this collection and make lots of Sun Kissed projects to drive away the winter blues!" ~Kathy
