Winter Wonderland Layouts & Cards

Hello, G45ers!

We are beginnning to ship our latest collections to a store near you today so keep a look out for Winter Wonderland and Penny's Paper Doll Family to show up in the next couple weeks. In celebration of that, we have a Winter Wonderland double feature brought you by Maggi Harding. Maggi shares a layout and card to get that creative inspiration flowing while you wait to get Graphic 45's latest holiday release in hand. We love Maggie's attention to detail and clever design sense. Check out the white paint effect on her pine cone embellishments and her custom chipboard pieces in these two exciting projects below. Before we jump in, it is time to announce this week's randomly chosen blog prize winner.

And the lucky winner is Georgia Jones! She commented on the blog to say, "I don't use a planner but I have just started a new journal. I have been filling it with bits and pieces from my embellishment stash but never thought of cutting up my G45 paper. So smart! Something to do while I watch CSI reruns. Thank you so much." Congratulations Georgia. Please contact info@g45papers.com to claim your prize.

Winter Wonderland Layout

By Maggi Harding

“I love this year's Christmas collection with its traditional reds and greens, so perfect for this layout of my great niece and nephew.  I wanted this great photo to be the focal point so it is centered on a large punched doily with two floral clusters, simple but effective.

Tip:  You can make really pretty floral clusters by first fussy cutting flowers from design paper and then layering dimensional flowers over the fussy cut ones.

In this case, I used a pine cone and berries branch along with a single bloom.  I dry brushed a little white paint on the pine cones and flower to add a touch of Winter.  Then, to add a festive look, I highlighted some of the flower petals and berries on the design paper with red Stickles.

Easel Card Winter Wonderland

By Maggi Harding

A simple card, like this one,  can make a powerful statement.  I made an easel card, but instead of the normal rectangle/square shape, I die-cut the easel portion to make it stand out and give it some edge.  When we are designing for shows we often receive first run papers literally hot off the press and we don't get any embellishments like chipboard, tags, etc to go with it.

Tip:  Make your own embellishments!  I punched a 1" circle from chipboard and then punched a 1" circle from design paper.   I glued them together and then using a button from another G45 collection, I marked the button holes and punched with my WRMK Big Bite.  Presto, now I have a button embellie!

Tip:   To give my project a little dimension without going overboard,  I fussy cut some poinsettias from design paper and layered them over the die-cut bird image, popping them up with foam dots.  That added a nice touch without making my card too bulky to mail." ~Maggi Harding
