#G45Feature – Steampunk Spells Top Hat Box & Mini Album
By Kristine Woods
“Hello crafty friends. It’s Kristine and I’m so excited to share this month’s projects with you and to show you how to use an entire Graphic 45 collection. Today, I will be featuring the fabulous Steampunk Spells Deluxe Collector’s Edition. There are two sizes: 12×12 and 8×8, and I used both sizes in my projects.
The first project I made with Steampunk Spells was a set of three cards. They were featured on the G45 blog and YouTube channel in August with a full tutorial. These cards were made for my second project – a mini album.
My Steampunk Spells mini album includes 5 pocket pages. Measuring 5” x 6 ½”, the album is small but with a chunky 3” spine. And best of all, it is matted to hold 73 photos!
All of my mini albums are made with white photo mats so the recipient can simply place their photos in it – there’s no guessing where the photos should go!
I used mostly the 8×8 Steampunk Spells DCE papers for my mini album, but there are a few spots where I used my 12×12 papers instead. The smaller pattern of the 8×8 is easier to work with on smaller scale projects.
The chipboard pieces included with the 12×12 DCE are perfect for swing tabs and page embellishments.
My G45 metal gears die is a favorite when I’m making a steampunk project of any kind. I love adding small sections around my photo mats to add visual interest. Best of all, the photos will easily tuck behind them!
There’s a full flip through of my Steampunk Spells mini album on my YouTube channel. Here, you can see a closer look at all of the interactive pages, flaps, and photo mats.

Steampunk Spells Top Hat
For my final project, I made a storage box for my completed mini album. It is a top hat and the top has a lid that opens to reveal the album!
As soon as I saw the Steampunk Spells DCE, I knew I wanted to make a top hat with lots of fun embellishments. So, I created one from cardboard and made a video tutorial for you to follow along.
